Although the number of New Yorkers who smoke has reduced over time, communities such as Asian Americans and other immigrants remain high. Contributing factors to these differences include how tobacco companies market their products, or how hard it is to access cigarettes, and the high stress people face every day.

Also, not everyone has the same access to resources and help to reduce or quit smoking. Not everyone can get treatments such as Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), support systems, and health education. Understanding how and why not everyone has equal access to the needed help is important to specific needs for each community and to implementing the appropriate interventions, policies, and sharing resources.
